Fresco "Shochet Kavinskis" in memory of the Litvak community in Utena
In 2020, Shochet Kavinskis returned to Žydų Street in Utena. Don't know what a shochet is? It is a person who butchers animals or birds in accordance with Jewish tradition. The Mariana Veriovkina Society assisted Shochet Kavinskis in resettling on Žydų Street through the Utena/Utyan project. They collaborated with artists Lina Šlipavičiūtė and Lauryna Kiškytė from the “Kiaurai sienas” NGO to create a mural depicting the life-sized figure of Shochet Kavinskis, a former resident of Utena, on the wall of a house. The mural commemorates the Litvak culture of Utena.
In the same year, a plaque was unveiled on Žydų Street with the words "Jewish Street" in Yiddish and Hebrew.
