The owner of the hill manor is Antanas Kulieša. he built a wooden church. But here in 2000 the faithful lost their church. The fire that originated in the early morning ruined the wooden church just to its foundation. After six months the construction of the new Pakalniai church began. For a long time, people of Pakalniai have been proud that their wooden church is one of the oldest in Utena region, and now is proud that the church is the newest. The old wooden bell tower still stands next to the new church.
