On September 29, 2023, Utena celebrated World Tourism Day and the 25th anniversary of the Utena Tourism Information Center. To commemorate these occasions, a bronze sculpture titled "Eternal Tourist" was erected in the city. This artwork by sculptor Lukas Šiupšinskas features a charming character with a "Hemingway-like" beard, ready for world exploration and wisely equipped with tourist gear: a hiking stick, a camera, binoculars, roller skates, a swimming ring, and a tourist backpack... There is no age for traveling; both a small child and an elderly senior travel, each in their own way.
On September 27, 2024, World Tourism Day was celebrated in Utena. During the event dedicated to this occasion, the bronze sculpture "Eternal Tourist" was given the name Uteivis. At the naming ceremony, the sculpture's godmother was honored, which turned out to be Jūratė Brasiūnienė, the head of the Culture Department at the Utena District Municipality Administration.
Therefore, the bronze tourist standing by the Utena Tourism Information Center is waiting for companions—everyone who comes to explore the Utena region or dreams of wandering elsewhere.
There can be nothing better than journeys than the journeys you have not yet taken! So dream! Dreams come true—you just need to think of a travel destination and rub the eye of the Eternal Tourist looking through the binoculars!
