Wall painting “Heroes of Utena” – Adolfas Šapoka
In 2021, Utena Adolfas Šapoka Gymnasium celebrated its 25th anniversary. One of the most important and impressive highlights of the anniversary celebrations was the work of the wall artist Tadas Vincaitis-Plūgas.
According to the painter, it took him two weeks to “put” the painting on the gymnasium wall. Since the gymnasium bears the name of a famous Lithuanian historian, the painting also reflects historical themes. The painting depicts a typewriter with which the great historian (his hands visible) writes the history of Lithuania, symbolised by the folk waistband in which the outlines of Lithuania and the Utena District are revealed.
